Hitchhiker’s Illusion

I’m the one you want to be
On the road and fancy free
Laughing, dancing on the kerbstones
Don’t care who stops or goes
That's the way, or goodness knows

When I think of you poor people
Strapped and strained in suspense
Crying, trying to make ends meet
Why do we call this “Society”?
It’s no way, or goodness knows

Society not the way was meant to be
Sharing skills and soothing pains
Feeding, heating through the winter deep
No one wants to feel alone
Mend our ways, or goodness knows

Later on I’m as sad as you
Half at heart, not fancy-free
I want to escape this society
But don’t want to feel alone
Find a way, find a way, or goodness knows
